In addition to the blog, we frequently send out emails with information that is then posted on the blog. Whether your a student, parents, or community member please feel free to join the list serve! You can do this by emailing me the message "add to list serve": macdanme@hsd401.org.

Volunteer Opportunity @ HHS: After School Study Lab

The after school study lab at Highline High School is looking for student volunteers to help out as peer tutors. They are most in need of volunteers who can help out with math - Algebra II and higher, but would be happy to have anyone come in who would be willing to help out. Study lab is held Monday-Thursday from 2:05-3:15. Your level of commitment can be flexible. Please let me know if you are interested. Volunteering would be a great way to give back to your school community and earn volunteer points for your club (if you are looking to do so).

Culminating Project/Internship/Community Service Opportunity: Become a Blogger

Please find information below that was sent to me about an interesting community involvement opportunity for High School Students:

Hi, My name is Anita Chung, a Western Washington resident from Kirkland. I have co-founded a nonprofit youth literary online community, www.ponderlounge.org. We worked with a number of Seattle-based as well as some international teaching artists to develop an innovative, highly original, slightly academic approach to celebrate and facilitate the art of creative writing among young teens.

Our site launched last October. Membership has grown steadily, high-quality submissions have been coming in, and contests have been successful. To kick off our launch, we have an excellent internship opportunity for high school students interested in writing. The Blogger is a highly engaging online internship program; interns are empowered to define the daily lives of our original characters found on the site. To find out more, please click here.

Due to our nonprofit nature, such an internship may also be considered community service hours if applicable. We also welcome senior students to consider this opportunity for their culminating project.

I'd appreciate your comments/questions as well as your help to spread the word about PonderLounge. We would love to have interns and/or receive submissions from Highline High!

Regards,

Anita Chung
