Welcome!

You've come to the right place for up to date information about internship, volunteer and job opportunities, as well as college application and scholarship deadlines, field trips, and events happening on campus. You'll also find posts on how to be as successful as possible when planning for your future!

At the bottom of this page you will find a google calendar with information about events, application deadlines, and program information. I find it easiest to navigate the calendar in "agenda" view, which you can switch it to by clicking the "agenda" tab in the upper right hand corner of the calendar.

In addition to the blog, we frequently send out emails with information that is then posted on the blog. Whether your a student, parents, or community member please feel free to join the list serve! You can do this by emailing me the message "add to list serve": macdanme@hsd401.org.

If you have any questions or need any support please stop into the LTI Office or College and Career Center, send an email, or call.

"Benefits of College"

Benefits of College

Research shows that college pays off. On average, college graduates earn $1 million more during their lifetimes than those with only a high school diploma. Check out the national average annual incomes for full-time workers over age 25 below.

Advanced Degree, $59,176
Bachelor’s Degree, $53,248
Associate Degree, $37,752
High School Graduate, $32,240
Less Than High School, $23,400

(Source; U.S. Department of Labor, Bureau of Labor Statistics, April 16, 2009.)

Research also shows that college graduates are more likely to be happy or satisfied with their quality of life. Researchers attribute this finding to the fact that completing college increases the number of options in several aspects of life. According to the U.S. Department of Education, when compared with high school graduates, college graduates are more likely to:

Stay employed.
Enjoy better health.
Have higher self-esteem and more self-direction.
Rate themselves as happier and more satisfied with life.
Vote.
Contribute to their communities and charitable causes.

There also are many intangible benefits to continuing your education beyond high school. Students often say the opportunity to make new friends, learn new things, and be a part of groups and clubs makes college life extremely rewarding.

If college can do all of that, everyone should have the opportunity to go.

Arena Conferencing

Dear Students....

Please pass the message along to your parents:

Arena Conferencing will be on Tuesday November 23 from 4:30-8pm.

Teachers will be stationed in the cafeteria and the library.

What is arena conferencing?
Purpose: Parents make short visits to each teacher specifically about student’s academic progress.
Teachers are available to inform parents of student grades and progress in an arena setting, first come, first served. “Conferences” last between 2-5 minutes only. Parents/guardians who require more time should be encouraged to make an appointment for Wednesday or a later date. While students are not required to participate in arena conferencing, they are encouraged to attend.
